Hay House, as seen on A&Es American Castles. Toured the building. Interesting home, needs more repairs inside and out. Notice the dingy steps. The roof over the steps needed work too. No pictures were allowed inside the building. You enter from the back of the building. The base floor needs major renovations. Other rooms are being renovated.
In front of the Hay House, across the street, there was a big park with these memorials and this house. House pic by Lea, other pic by Christy.
Lea's commentary on the Hay House:
I know that your home should indicate your social and financial status (which might explain why I'm renting a studio apartment, but the Hay House was a little too over the top for me. I mean who needs 12 foot tall, 500 pound front doors? With garish lion head ornaments, no less!
As overdone as it was, The Hay House was an impressive structure. It isn't everyday you are in a room with thirty foot ceilings. And that was on the first floor! There were two stories above it!.
I think the funniest moment on the tour came when we were in the ballroom, where the tour guide pointed out matching urns on the mantle. Christy innocently asked if there were people in them.
Ha! I thought the snotty old hag with us would faint! Way to go Christy!
No matter how hard we try to appear sophisticated and cultured, our redneck roots shine through.
